Armouries

Build a place where weapons and armour were kept and made: the tall Zeughaus of a city or province, the Arsenale of Venice on the water, the armoury hall of a castle, the fireproof kura of a Japanese castle or the fabrica of a Roman legionary fortress. Along the walls stand suits of armour and spear racks, in the middle anvils and chests. At the bottom you can read how everything is calculated.

A number is the count of blocks of that part in that layer, in the colour of the part. Click a layer to see it from above.

Build tips

    • Put crafts together as they were: in a town, smiths, bakers and weavers often had their own street. Think of Smith Lane or Tanners’ Row.
    • Every villager profession in Minecraft has its own workstation. A building with the right workstations does double duty when villagers live in it.

    History and fun facts

    Zeughaus and Arsenale

The Landeszeughaus in Graz was built from 1642 to 1645 for the Styrian estates, which kept weapons here for defence against the Ottomans; it is still the largest historic armoury in the world, with tens of thousands of pieces. The Zeughaus in Berlin was finished around 1700 as the Baroque arsenal of the Prussian king. The Arsenale of Venice, founded around 1104, was a shipyard and arms factory in one, with a canal through the middle along which the galleys were fitted out.

    Armoury hall, kura and fabrica

In the Tower of London the English crown kept weapons from the Middle Ages; the Royal Armouries are the oldest museum collection in the country. Japanese castles had a kura, a storehouse with thick plaster walls against fire, in which weapons, guns and rice were kept. In a Roman legionary fortress the fabrica was the workshop of the armourers and carpenters; such a building has been excavated at Inchtuthil in Scotland, among other places.

    Did you know?

    • According to a well-known story, the Arsenale of Venice could finish a galley a day in the sixteenth century.
    • A Roman legion had its own smiths, carpenters and masons: the soldiers made their weapons themselves.
    • The Landeszeughaus in Graz is still a museum with its original suits of armour.

    About this tool

With this planner you build an armoury in Minecraft, in the style of the culture you choose. The building has suits of armour and spear racks along the walls, anvils and chests in the middle, and a gate wide enough for a cart with cannons.

You see the build plan layer by layer, a 3D preview and the block list, and you can download the armoury as a schematic for WorldEdit or Litematica.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I build an armoury in Minecraft?

Choose a culture, for example the Zeughaus or the Arsenale, and set the length and the storeys. Build the walls and roof, then place the suits of armour (a plinth, an iron block and a skull), the spear racks and the anvils.

Where does the water in the Arsenale come from?

The Arsenale lay in the lagoon, with a canal through the yard. In the planner you therefore choose the Arsenale type: the canal runs through the middle and ends in a gate on the water, where you can moor a ship.

    Which armouries are there?

Five: Zeughaus (Graz, Berlin), Arsenale, armoury hall in a castle, Japanese kura and the Roman fabrica. You can combine them with barracks and an army camp for a whole fort.
